Arsenic, selenium, phosphorus and other weak-line elements often give noisy signals from hollow-cathode lamps; these electrodeless discharge lamps give more light. EDLs are available for eight elements including arsenic, selenium, cadmium, mercury and phosphorus, excited by RF or microwave at 5–20 W, with rated life of 300–1500 h. A dedicated external power supply is required.
