Coal, coke, limestone, gypsum and dried biomass break easily under impact, which makes a hammer crusher efficient for secondary reduction. This unit takes feed up to 50 mm and produces 0.5–10 mm depending on the grate, at up to 400 kg/h. The rotor runs 1,000–3,000 rpm with hardened alloy steel hammers, giving reduction ratios up to 20:1.
