Plant labs running routine batch tests, and training centres, often prefer a cell with no blower to maintain. Air is drawn in through the hollow shaft, with the rate following impeller speed of 500–2500 rpm. Cells of 0.5–3 L take 100–1000 g at 10–45 % solids, and the motor is just 0.25–0.75 kW.
