Sand and filler are too fine for a wire basket, so their density is found by the pycnometer method. Each of the three 1000 mL glass jars takes a brass conical top with a 6 mm vent, sealed by a gasket and screw ring for repeatable filling. About 500 g of sand per jar is typical, and a funnel and 300 mm glass rod are included.
