Specific gravity and water absorption feed directly into concrete and asphalt mix design, so small errors carry through to every batch. We supply under-balance density frames with baskets and tanks, a complete digital weighing station, fine aggregate pycnometer sets, SSD cone kits and a vacuum de-airing pycnometer set. Particle size, sample mass and how much you want to automate decide the choice. The equipment is sized for ASTM C127, ASTM C128 and BS EN 1097-6.

How to specify

  1. Match the wire basket size to your largest aggregate; 37.5 mm stone needs a larger basket and tank than chippings.
  2. Use an overflow tank so the water level, and therefore the buoyancy, stays constant between weighings.
  3. Keep water at 23 ± 2 °C or record its temperature, because density of water changes the result.
