Residual marine fuels and crude residues are judged partly on how much carbon they leave behind. This tester ramps vials to 500 °C ±2 °C under 600 ± 50 mL/min nitrogen and handles 6 or 12 samples per run. Residue range is 0.01–30 % m/m, sample mass about 0.15–5 g depending on expected level, and each cycle takes about 30 min plus cooling.
