The volumetric sand patch remains the reference test for surface macrotexture. This kit measures 25 mL of 0.18–0.25 mm glass beads in a 20 mm bore cylinder and spreads them into a circle with a 65 mm hard rubber disc. Two diameters are read on a 300 mm ruler, and a foldable windshield keeps the beads in place on breezy sites.
