Time-resolved fluorescence uses europium, samarium and terbium chelates whose long lifetime lets the reader ignore background glow. Delay time is programmable at 200–600 µs and the counting window at 400–1000 µs, reaching picomolar detection on suitable assays. Plates of 96 or 384 wells run at up to 400–800 wells/h, useful for neonatal screening.
