A falling interfacial tension is one of the earliest warnings that transformer oil is ageing. This ring tensiometer measures 0–100 mN/m with 0.01 mN/m resolution and ±0.1 mN/m accuracy, lifting a ring of about 6.0 cm circumference at roughly 0.3 mm/s. Each test needs about 40 mL oil plus 40 mL water at 25 ± 1 °C.
