Membranes, fibres, implant coatings and films cannot be suspended in a cuvette, so their surface charge is measured by streaming potential. Flat samples from 10 × 20 mm up to 20 × 50 mm form a gap of about 100 µm, through which electrolyte flows at up to 600 mbar. Readings span −200 to +200 mV over pH 2–12 using Ag/AgCl electrodes.
