A weight-loss step tells you how much left the sample; the coupled spectrometer tells you what it was. A transfer line heated to 200–250 °C carries evolved gases to an FTIR cell scanning 4000–600 cm⁻¹ at up to 10 spectra per minute. The TGA side runs to 1000 °C with 0.1 µg resolution.
