Pin-jointed frames are where students first resolve forces member by member, and measured member forces make the method of joints concrete. We build strain-gauged plane trusses, a redundant truss with an adjustable member, a three-dimensional space frame, a roof truss deflection rig and a modular bridge truss kit on load cells. Determinacy, how member forces are read and whether students assemble the frame themselves decide the choice. Member and joint details follow BS EN 1993-1-8 practice, and gauged members are bonded to ASTM E251-qualified foil gauges.
