Shear force and bending moment diagrams are the foundation of every beam design, and measuring them at a cut section makes the sign conventions stick. We build a cut-beam shear force rig, a bending moment rig, a combined digital apparatus, an influence line beam with a rolling load and a bending stress beam with strain gauges through the depth. Which quantities you want to measure, digital or mechanical readout and class size decide the choice. Experiments support the beam checks taught from BS EN 1993-1-1 and IS 800, with load cells calibrated to ISO 376.
