Eccentric Load Column Apparatus for Southwell Plot

Real columns are never perfectly straight or centrally loaded, which is exactly what this apparatus demonstrates. Steel columns of 500 and 700 mm are loaded through knife-edge ends at eccentricities from 0 to 10 mm, up to 600 N via a lever. Two 0.01 mm dial gauges record lateral deflection, giving clean data for the secant formula and Southwell plots.
