High-temperature grease classification starts with the dropping point. This apparatus heats grease cups with 2.8 mm bottom holes up to 400 °C, slowing to 1–1.5 °C/min near the drop, with ±0.5 °C accuracy. Manual units rely on visual observation; automatic units take 1–4 cups and detect the drop optically from about 1 g of sample.
