Slopes, dam foundations and tunnel wedges usually fail along joints, bedding or infilled discontinuities, not through intact rock, so joint shear strength is a key design value. We offer the classic portable shear box with hand pumps, a digital version with data logging, a motorised laboratory apparatus, a servo joint shear system with constant normal stiffness and moulds for encapsulating specimens. Specimen size, whether you test at site and the normal stress range decide the choice. Laboratory work follows ASTM D5607, and the larger systems also support in situ methods such as ASTM D4554 and IS 7746.
