Ring & Ball Softening Point Apparatus — Bitumen & Asphalt Testing Equipment

Softening point fixes the temperature at which a binder starts to flow and is a core grading value for paving, oxidised and modified bitumen. We supply a manual beaker set, a digital heater with controlled 5 °C/min ramp, an automatic optical tester, a dual-beaker automatic model and spare ring-and-ball accessories. Throughput and whether you test in water or glycerol steer the choice. Apparatus follows ASTM D36 and BS EN 1427, and an IS 1205 configuration is available.

How to specify

  1. Use glycerol for binders softening above 80 °C.
  2. Automatic optical detection removes the operator's judgement at the drop point.
